THE CREATION OF OSOGBO WEST PROVISIONAL ARCHDEACONRY

At the Third Session of the Twelfth Synod of the Diocese of Osun held at the Cathedral of All Saints, Balogun Agoro, Osogbo between Thursday 27th and Sunday 30th April, 2023, the Diocesan Bishop – The Rt. Rev. Dr. Foluso Olugbenga Babatunji announced the creation of a new Archdeaconry before he concludes the reading of his Charge on Friday April 28, 2023. The archdeaconry will be known as Osogbo West Archdeaconry, with the headquarters at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Oke-Onitea, Osogbo.

The Bishop described an Archdeaconry is a geographical area of the Diocese under the supervision of a priest in the rank of an Archdeacon as directed by the Bishop. Furthermore, he said the Bishop, with the consent of the Diocesan Board shall determine the number of Archdeaconries and their geographical boundaries.

He observed that St. Paul’s Oke-Onitea had satisfied the Diocese that she and all the churches under her will be able to survive as an Archdeaconry if created. This is evident in the observable zeal with which they requested for the Archdeaconry status had continued to wax stronger. He expressed hope that the area will not only maintain, but increase this fervour to live up to the expectation of a full-fledged Archdeaconry.

The Rt. Rev. Foluso Olugbenga Babatunji then pronounced the following Churches, St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Oke-Onitea Osogbo, Christ’s Anglican Church, Agunbelewo Osogbo, Anglican Church of the Messiah, Halleluyah Estate Osogbo, New Covenant Anglican Church Oke-Onitea Osogbo, and Anglican Church Woru Area, as Osogbo West Archdeaconry. He prayerfully commits the Clergy and Laity of the Archdeaconry to the care and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
